Blackpark is a mixed farm extending to 300 acres, with 80 suckler cows producing Charolais and Limousin cross yearling beef calves under the Scottish Quality Beef and Lamb Association farm assurance standards.
|
We also have 100 Highland Mule breeding ewes (a cross of Blackface and Blue Face Leicester) producing prime Suffolk cross lambs, naturally reared on grass under the same quality scheme, and auctioned locally. Crops grown other than grass, are spring barley to supply grain to the the local maltings for the production of whisky. Blackpark farm is run in partnership by Mrs. June Alexander (Farm Shop) and her son Iain (Main Farming Operation). Blackpark farm entered the Rural Stewardship Scheme in September 2003 which is an environmental scheme aimed at improving the environmental practices in agriculture, and promoting responsible and sustainable farming practices. |
